The Red Cross estimates that someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds and that one donation can potentially save up to three lives. Donating blood is critical as blood and platelets cannot be manufactured and can only come from volunteer donors.
At Nationwide, with about 32,000 employees, rewards associates companywide with a half day of paid time off for each successful blood donation. Since 2000, associates have donated more than 233,000 units of blood through blood drives at nearly two dozen corporate locations. This program helps ensure an adequate blood supply across the United States. The encouragement and reward for employees aides in the awareness and benefits of donating blood.
